Love’s an Emotion
Love’s an emotion that everyone needs
In most families it thrives like a weed
The more it’s tested, the tougher it grows
Why then for our elderly, does it weaken and slow?
Do we get so involved in our own life style
We forget Mom or Dad, old age and it’s trials
Sure most of us see that they’re warm and fed
They have their own room and a comfortable bed
They’re cared for by strangers, but that’s no big deal
The home always fixes good nutritious hot meals
The nurses and aides get paid well for their care
But somehow the living just isn’t there
Now we’ve taken care of their physical needs
But where is the love that grows like a weed
Have we withdrawn our love, grown selfish and cold
Has it been plowed under because they’re too ol
Their physical needs have been (met and now, [omitted])
But where is the love they’re looking for
[additional verses on another page]
And don’t understand love, when shown or told
Rejection shows on each line of their face
What do they think of the human race
What is life without love and love without care
It’s a picture of rejection in a rocking chair
Although we’ve fulfilled all their physical needs
They still need the love that grows like a weed
