Joe’s Pants
I’ve always like to go shopping
To me it seemed like heaven
Buying clothes and school shoes
For our family of seven
Shopping for school outfits
Or needed shorts for gym
A notebook one of them had to have
Or suit so they could swim
Sometimes it would be a party dress
Or a special outfit for a dance
But the hardest purchase for me to make
Was buying Joe’s last pair of pants
The clerk was kind and thoughtful
And offered tailoring, to our sorrow
I couldn’t speak for the lump in my throat
Cause Joe’ll be buried tomorrow
